Art Professionals (from
eligible countries) for workshops on art institution.
Contemporary Art
Gallery BWA Sokół in Nowy Sącz and Culture.pl invite art
professionals to apply to take part in the Detour
Institution // Institution through the Exhibition,
a project of touring workshops in Poland. Workshops are open to
curators, art organisers, researchers and artists from Belarus,
Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Armenia and Poland.
Detour
Institution is a long-term project
organised as touring expert meetings, directed at art practitioners
responsible for the development of art institutions in the Eastern
Partnership countries and Poland. Research context will be provided
by galleries of contemporary art in Poland, especially those situated
outside cultural centres and conducting research in the area of
post-communist basis and local contexts. The project is a response to
the global changes in the cultural sphere that favour the search for
alternative forms of activity and self-organisation. Art spaces in
Poland will become study cases for workshops comparing the existing
strategies and developing potential ones, models of transformations
or ways of adapting to political, social or economic changes. Sharing
experience among art professionals working in all participating
countries on similar but nevertheless locally variant bases will
become a platform for the exchange of knowledge and mutual
inspiration.
Participants
will have the opportunity to visit Poland in October 2015. Trips to
Gdańsk and to the Malopolska region will be scheduled for seven days
of workshops, meetings and site visits during which participants will
be introduced to the post-1989 institutional scene in Poland, with a
particular focus on the BWA net of contemporary art galleries.
Furthermore participants will have the
opportunity to meet with the founders of non-governmental
organizations and private galleries active in the field of
contemporary art in Poland. The programme
will be complemented by guided tours of exhibitions held at Polish
art spaces that build their own strategies based on the local context
with programme objectives often going beyond traditional
organisational model.
Selected participants
should be ready and willing to:
• Provide a brief
overview or insight into specific issues related to the institutional
background and current art scene in their country;
• Participate in the
Detour Institution programme (visits, workshops, meetings, study
visits, city walks).
Selection will be based on
the professional experience of the applicant’s work and his/her
plans for sharing the benefits of the exchange with artists and
institutions in his/her home country. Applicants must have sufficient
knowledge of English to function independently and be able to
communicate with the project staff and other participants.
